Work with Us

See history through a new lens

TrueFiktion comics help you show students pivotal moments in U.S. history through the perspective of marginalized groups. Each comic illustrates lesser-known details of U.S. History, highlights the resilience of marginalized groups, and helps make history relevant to current social issues.

FAQs

  • We are an education company that makes comic books. We are not a comic book company looking to take a small foray into the education market. We exist to help people learn, do better in school, and improve their critical thinking skills. We use comic books as a tool to do that because comic books are an underutilized medium for elevating students' critical thinking and engagement.

Our comic books are not – nor ever will be – superhero comic books. They are comic books that are designed for critical thinking and engagement. To get a better idea of the work we do, explore our existing catalog of historical comic books.

  • We are located in Chicago. However, we work remotely and asynchronously.

We are flexible with work hours and locations.

  • We are not currently offering full-time positions because of the size of our company. Most of our work for the next year will be contract work based on our current product roadmap. Plus we’re financed through grants. We generally hire contractors to do particular sets of projects. As we grow through either revenue or fundraising, we aim to hire those contractors in part-time or full-time positions.

  • We are growing a world-class team of experts in culturally responsive learning, curriculum content design, human-centered design, and comic book illustration.

We have an intense focus on ensuring that our content is culturally affirming and gives students the critical thinking tools to understand social issues. We do this by producing beautiful graphic novels that are thoughtfully paired with a rigorous curriculums.

From concept ideation to production, our design process is human-centered. We rely on design thinking methodology and our agency framework to design our comics.

We engage with many ideas and concepts, but we always commit to what we think is best for the administrators, teachers, and students we serve.

If this resonates with you, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

  • We address difficult and sometimes painful moments of U.S. history. Someone working in product development might need to engage with disturbing historical material, such as images of Black people being lynched. While not all our source content will be unsettling, engaging with content depicting darker parts of U.S. history is part of the job.
